Are you an atomical or an Epicurean atheist?
I was just quoting a 17th-century author insulting the understanding of 17th-century atheists.
However, there is much historical debate as to how many atheists there really were in the 17th century. Ray was probably directing his comments towards people who claimed to be theists, but argued that the world could have come about by chance interactions of atoms. For someone like Ray, this was denigrating the power and providence of God.
Of course, a lot has changed in the past 300 years...
