Me too. The 'Galileo Affair' is one of my soapboxes, and I tend to get quite irate when people spout the standard 'Galileo was persecuted by the church for being a scientist' line. I'm tutoring an online subject on science and religion at the moment, and as I read the discussion posts, there's a lot of seething going on! Excuse me, but did you do the reading?!
There's been a great deal of revisionist literature on Galileo in the last few decades, but it's taking an awfully long time to filter down into the popular mindset!
